Question:

179 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the clothing and footwear entitlement of female members of the FCA within one year of enlistment and thereafter; if appropriate headgear is available for female members at present in all commands; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1553/94]

The following statement sets out the articles of clothing and footwear issuable to female members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil. The head-dress provided for female members of the FCÁ, which is the same as that provided for male members, is readily available in all commands.

(a) These articles shall be withheld, pending completion by a recruit of one year's satisfactory service and her having qualified for retention on the effective strength in accordance with the terms of paragraph 38 of these Regulations.
(b) Issuable to non-commissioned officers and Privates of the Military Police Corps only.
(c) A free replacement issue may, on the certificate of the Company Commander, be made to a non-commissioned officer or Private who expends her field dressing in rendering fist aid treatment.
(d) Issuable to non-commissioned officers and Privates of the Artillery Corps only.
(e) One pair of gymnasium shoes may be issued to each non-commissioned officer and Private who undergoes a Physical Training Leaders course of instruction.
