Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Disabled Driver Certificates.

Peter Barry

Question:

225 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Health the arrangements, if any, he has made to have documents to register their vehicles processed for disabled drivers during the present industrial dispute involving doctors at the Southern Health Board; his views on the fact that many of these disabled persons are at present housebound because of the dispute; an if he will have alternative arrangements made. [1418/94]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that following negotiations with the Irish Medical Organisation the doctors who have been involved in the public health doctors dispute resumed their usual duties on 10 October, pending completion of the ballot on the dispute.

I have been assured by the Southern Health Board that priority is being given to clearing the backlog of work, including the certification of medical certificates under the Disabled Drivers (Tax Concessions) Regulations, 1989, which has built up during the dispute.
