Vol. 446 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Fund Employment Grant.

Richard Bruton

Question:

99 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has imposed restrictions on the £5,000 employment grant payable by the City/County Enterprise Boards which disqualify persons setting up businesses who are on the back to work allowance which is a subsistence payment to sustain family income; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1703/94]

Following discussions between relevant Departments, a letter of clarification was issued by my Department to County Enterprise Boards which indicated that people who qualify for the Social Welfare Back to Work scheme should not also qualify for employment grants from the County Enterprise Fund. This applies to promoters who are self employed and claiming the allowance in respect of their own job or in respect of employees who are in receipt of the Social Welfare allowance.
