A total of over £300 million has been provided for national and non-national roads in 1994.
Grant allocations totalling £106.4 million have been made to local authorities in 1994 for the maintenance and improvement of non-national roads. Details of the allocations notified to individual authorities in February and May 1994 are set out in the reply to Question No. 72 of 24 May, 1994. These allocations include £33.6 million under the EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants for non-national roads, which, although paid initially from the Exchequer, are expected to qualify for EU aid at the rate of 50 per cent. The allocations made in May 1994 to individual local authorities under the EU co-financed scheme are set out in the accompanying table.
