Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy (Wexford) Public Toilet.

Ivan Yates

Question:

205 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Environment if the allocation of £50,000 towards the provision of a public toilet by Enniscorthy Urban District Council is exclusively for the provision of an automatic convenience or if it can be used for a conventional toilet. [2095/94]

A grant of £47,000 was allocated to Enniscorthy UDC on 20 May 1994 for the provision of an automatic public convenience on the basis that this fully planned project would be completed and grant-aided this year. I understand that the council is now considering an alternative proposal to provide a conventional public convenience. My Department has advised the council that, in the event of a change in its plans, there could be no assurance of funding of the revised proposals in 1995. The council has been asked to clarify its position as soon as possible.
