Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Cork Prison Security Measures.

Phil Hogan

Question:

96 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice if she will make a statement on the claim that for some years people have been throwing drugs into Cork prison over a boundary fence. [1937/94]

I am aware that attempts are made from time to time to pass drugs into Cork Prison by the means referred to by the Deputy. I am very concerned at any attempt to pass contraband to prisoners and my Department is in consequence examining the physical security measures at the prison, in consultation with the Office of Public Works, to eliminate this practice as soon as possible.
