Vol. 446 No. 3

Written Answers. - Contract Murders.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

152 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to deal with contract murders. [2177/94]

The investigation of murder committed within the jurisdiction is the responsibility of An Garda Síochána. Each investigation is directed at establishing the identity of those responsible as well as identifying evidence to support a prosecution. One of the factors considered is motive for killing. All murders are dealt with in this manner.

The serious Crime Squad at Central Detective Unit concentrates on gathering of intelligence and information on all serious crime including murder. Such information and intelligence is utilised in the investigation of that type of crime.

No effort is spared in these investigations and if crimes of this nature were believed to be linked, all aspects of those crimes and information gathered would be examined, collated and acted upon. Every effort is made to ensure all murder cases are solved.
