Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy H. Byrne — the sinking of the Orchidee on 22 September 1992, resulting in the loss of two Irish lives and in particular the delay by the French authorities in investigating the matter; (2) Deputy O'Leary — the urgent need for roof repairs and improvement works as regards indoor sanitary facilities to be carried out to Rathmore Boys Primary School, County Kerry; (3) Deputy F. Fitzgerald — the need for a national plan to deal with waste disposal from Irish hospitals; (4) Deputy O'Donoghue — the need to provide coastal protection at Cromane, Killorglin, County Kerry; (5) Deputy E. Ryan — the need to take action in relation to fireworks having regard to the increase in injuries to children and the fact that poor quality fireworks are being dumped onto the Irish market; (6) Deputy Hogan — the reason a document was altered by the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications materially changing the conditions under which planning permission was granted by Kilkenny County Council to a company (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; (7) Deputy O'Donnell — the urgent need to improve procedures in the Attorney General's Office for processing warrants for extradition to Northern Ireland; (8) Deputy Sheehan — the requirement that farmers furnish an RSI number despite an assurance by the Minister that farmers with small incomes would not be subject to this requirement if their cattle headage payments did not exceed £500; (9) Deputy Ó Cuív — an gá atá ann cleachtas teanga a chur ar fáil do na boird sláinte maidir le cúraimí sláinte do mhuintir na Gaeltachta, go mór mhór maidir le seandaoine ón nGaeltacht gurb í an Ghaeilge a gcéad teanga; (10) Deputy E. Byrne — the reported use of the Government jet on 13 October to transport the Minister of State at the Department of Social Welfare and her husband from Zurich to Dublin at an estimated cost of £30,000, in view of the fact that there was a scheduled flight available the next morning; and the need for new guidelines to limit the use of the Government jet particularly where alternative scheduled flights are available; (11) Deputy Broughan — the low rate of third-level participation on the northside and especially in Dublin 17; and the urgent need to remedy this situation; (12) Deputy T. Ahearn — the urgent need for the appointment of a temporary fifth teacher to Ballingarry National School, County Tipperary, in view of its designation as a school of disadvantaged status and the high level of unemployment in the area, and (13) Deputy Durkan — the failure of the Minister for Health to activate in full the provisions of the Child Care Act, notwithstanding the calls for its implementation from various professional and statutory bodies; and the danger to children as a consequence of this delay.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies O'Donnell; H. Byrne; Sheehan and F. Fitzgerald.
