Question:

110 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the total moneys collected from motor taxation and vehicle registration in the Dublin area over the last five years; the road grants for the Dublin area for the corresponding years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2462/94]

Information on the amount of motor taxation and vehicle registration fees collected in the Dublin area in the years 1989 to 1992 is contained in the reply to Question No. 71 of 2 February 1994. On the basis of returns furnished by Dublin Corporation, the amount of motor taxation collected in the Dublin area in 1993 was £59,653,041. Vehicle Registration Tax, VRT, was introduced on 1 January, 1993 and is collected by the Revenue Commissioners.

Details of the grants paid for nonnational roads to local authorities in the Dublin area are set out in the reply to Question No. 72 of 24 May 1994. The position in respect of national roads is as follows:
