Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Murder Investigation.

Liz McManus

Question:

63 Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the action, if any, the Irish Government has taken with regard to the murder of a person (details supplied); and the result, if any, of that action. [2597/94]

Immediately following the event, in March of this year, we expressed our grave concern to the Government of the country where the person was killed and we sought full information about the circumstances in which the killing occurred. An investigation committee was established by the Government concerned in June and it presented a report in September.

We have received a copy of the committee's report. Among its findings were that the killing occurred during a rebel attack on the town where the person worked and that the army did not try to resist the attack. We are waiting to hear what action, if any, the Government concerned will take in the light of the report's findings.

I conveyed our very deep concern about this killing to the relatives of the victim when I met them last March.
