130 Mr. Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) asked the Minister for the Environment if his Department has issued guidelines regarding the provision of pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and traffic calming measures in towns and villages; and, if so, if he will make relevant copies available. [2718/94]
Guidelines governing the provision of pedestrian crossings and traffic signals at intersections were prepared by An Foras Forbartha and made available to road authorities who are responsible for the provision of such facilities. I have arranged for a copy of the relevant reports to be sent to the Deputy.
Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, which came into operation on 22 July 1994, provides road authorities with new general powers to provide traffic calming measures. Preliminary advice in relation to such measures was included in guidance notes on the provisions of the Act which were issued by my Department to all road authorities last July. A copy of these notes will also be sent to the Deputy.
