Vol. 446 No. 6

Written Answers. - Coastal Erosion.

Liam Burke

Question:

150 Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for the Marine the finance, if any, he has received in the context of the EU backed National Plan, 1994 to 1999, for coastal erosion in respect of Ballycotton, County Cork, which is dilapidated and very dangerous; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2734/94]

Under the National Development Plan a sum of some £5 million is being made available over the period to 1999 towards the undertaking of priority coastal protection works. In order to achieve the best mix of projects coastal local authorities have been asked to submit details of their top four priority projects to the Department along with a cost-benefit appraisal for each project. Consideration will be given by the Department to each project submitted having regard to the benefits arising and available funding. Ballycotton will be duly considered in the event that Cork County Council submit it as one of their priority projects.
