Vol. 446 No. 7

Written Answers. - Veterinary Medical Products.

Peadar Clohessy

Question:

18 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will publish a list of drugs approved for inclusion in animal medicines; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2796/94]

The authorisation of veterinary medicinal products is a matter for the National Drugs Advisory Board under the European Communities (Veterinary Medicinal Products) Regulations, 1986. The board periodically publishes a list of such authorisations in Iris Oifigiúil; the most recent list was published in Iris Oifigiúil of 28 July 1994. The primary responsibility for proper use of veterinary medicines rests with those who have possession of the products. My Department has recently produced a list of products currently approved for the guidance of the various sectors involved in veterinary medicines and has distributed it to the representative organisations involved.
