Vol. 447 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Semi-State Board Appointments.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

90 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance his views on the need for reform of the manner in which appointments are made to semi-State boards at present. [3458/94]

The Programme for Government states that the Government will implement the principles set out in the 1991Programme for Economic and Social Progress in relation to semi-State bodies. Under paragraph 89.5 of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress the primary considerations to be applied in the appointment of directors to semi-State bodies are the experience and expertise of the individuals concerned. The manner in which appointments are made is governed by the legislation establishing each semi-State body.
