194 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the provision of the Ballyvoreen/Callaghane group water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3261/94]
The cost of this 21 house scheme has been estimated by my Department at £75,000; this includes an amount of approximately £34,000 for upsized watermains requested by Waterford County Council. On the basis of standard group water scheme grants of £13,800, this high cost scheme is not financially viable and would require a substantial supplementary grant.
My Department will be examining the Ballyvoreen/Callaghane proposal in the context of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999 which is intended to provide European Regional Development Structural Fund support for certain group schemes which contribute to the economic development of rural areas.
