Tuesday, 24 Jan 1995

Vol. 447 No. 11

Select Committees: Motion.

I move:

That notwithstanding anything in the Standing Orders of Dáil Éireann:—

(1) All members serving on Select Committees of the 27th Dáil, including Joint Committees and the Committee of Selection, be discharged from membership of those committees with the exception of the members of the Sub-Committee of the Select Committee on Legislation and Security appointed to consider the matters referred to that Committee by order of Dáil Éireann on 6 December 1994, who shall continue as members of that Sub-Committee when the Sub-Committee has discharged the functions assigned to it by orders of Dáil Éireann;

(2) Any matter in the course of consideration by a Committee referred to in paragraph (1) above, including the Committee Stage of a Bill, shall be deemed to be unaffected by the discharge of the members of the Committee; and

(3) The following members be appointed to serve on the Committee of Selection:—

Deputies Dermot Ahern, Séan Barrett (Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach), Michael Bell, Andrew Boylan, Michael Creed, Eric Byrne, Ivor Callely, Michael Ferris, Tony Gregory, Séamus Hughes, P.J. Morley, Liz O'Donnell and Róisín Shortall.”.

Question put and agreed to.

On a point of order, I think the Government believes that the Order of Business is over but we have not started it yet.

Let us go through the business at this stage.

We are only dealing with fixed business. We can still raise issues at the end of it.

I will afford Members an opportunity of raising matters——

I thought the arrangement was that we would do that before Deputy Wallace rose.
