Vol. 448 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Relief.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

48 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Finance, in regard to the Government of Renewal programme, if a tax relief will be allowed for members of voluntary group water schemes who pay service charges to their schemes. [1458/95]

The policy agreement A Government of Renewal states that “As a short term measure, and in recognition of the fact that local charges are seen by some as double taxation, a tax allowance for service charges paid will be granted at the standard rate up to a maximum of £150”. My Department is currently considering the details of how this will be implemented. I have to say, however, that the proposal in the policy agreement related only to local authority charges and that is the basis on which I am proceeding.
