Vol. 448 No. 1

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

Máirín Quill

Question:

90 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of persons countrywide who are on community employment schemes. [1781/95]

Noel Ahern

Question:

91 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the most recent statistics for those on community employment schemes; the categories of recipients involved; and his target for such schemes for the end of 1995 and the end of 1996. [1353/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.

As on 31 December last, there were around 40,100 participants on community employment.

They were comprised of persons who, immediately prior to participating, had been in receipt of unemployment benefit or lone parent's allowance for over one year, were over 21 years of age and in receipt of unemployment assistance or were registered with the national rehabilitation board.

The target end year participation level is being examined in the context of the forthcoming budget — the end 1996 target will be reviewed in the context of the 1996 estimates procedure.
