Vol. 448 No. 2

Written Answers. - Long Term Unemployment Definition.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

118 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment his definition of long term unemployment. [1764/95]

The Deputy will be aware that, while there is no formal definition of the term "long term unemployment" and that in fact its meaning has varied over the years, the current position, both domestically and internationally, is that it is a term which can be applied to any person who seeks to participate in the labour market and who has been one year or more without employment.
