Vol. 448 No. 2

Written Answers. - Primary/Secondary School Statistics.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

95 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Education the number of students with County Louth addresses who graduated from primary school in each of the years 1984 to 1989; and the number of students with County Louth addresses who graduated from secondary schools in each of the years from 1989 to 1994. [1725/95]

Data on enrolment of primary and second level schools collected by my Department do not refer to the home address of pupils.

Information on the numbers of pupils graduating from national schools is not available for school-years prior to 1988/89. For the school year ending 1989, there were 1,833 pupils who graduated from national schools in County Louth.

A new computerised pupil data base at second level was developed in 1992 and the data requested is only readily available for the school years 1992/93 and 1993/94.

In 1992/93, an estimated total of 1,920 pupils graduated from second level schools in County Louth with at least junior certificate completion. In 1993/94, the corresponding figure was 2,050.
