Séamus Hughes

Question:

105 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Justice her views on the proposal of the Circuit Court review working group to reduce the number of venues for sittings of the Circuit Court from 50 to 32; and the manner in which this will improve the operation of the Circuit Court system, particularly in relation to civil and family law matters. [1750/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 104 and 105 together.

A committee was established by my predecessor, Deputy Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, in March 1994, under the chairmanship of the President of the Circuit Court, the Hon. Mr. Justice Frank Spain, to review the circuits of the Circuit Court to determine the optimum size and number of circuits and the number of venues with a view to ensuring the efficient working of the Circuit Court in all areas.

The committee has not as yet submitted its proposals to me. As soon as they are submitted they will receive my immediate consideration.
