Vol. 448 No. 2

Written Answers. - Assessment of Means.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

110 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Social Welfare in view of the announcement on 28 April 1994, the progress, if any, that is being made to devise a pilot scheme under which the rules for assessment of means for unemployment assistance purposes will be relaxed where income is derived in the start-up phase of certain commercial onfarm enterprises or under the rural environmental protection scheme. [1755/95]

I am considering proposals regarding the basis on which payments from these sources might be excluded from assessment as means for unemployment assistance purposes. I am anxious to see the rural environment protection scheme availed of to the maximum extent possible. I hope to be in a position to complete these considerations on the means assessment issue and to make an announcement in the near future.
