Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - UCD Funding.

Alan Shatter

Question:

133 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education the steps, if any, she will take to provide the necessary funding to University College Dublin to enable the library facilities and other facilities in the college to be substantially improved to ensure that those persons attending the college are provided with the facilities required to complete their degree courses. [1927/95]

With regard to improved library and other facilities in University College Dublin, my Department in conjunction with the Higher Education Authority is at present undertaking a detailed study of space needs within the third level sector as a whole with a view to establishing and prioritising projects for funding.

As indicated in my press statement of 13 January 1994 a sum of £2.5 million has been included in the 1994/99 European Regional Development Fund programme for the provision of improved computer and language facilities at the college. The planning of the project is at an advanced stage and construction work is due to commence later this year.
