Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the member in each case: (1) Deputy Leonard — funding for road construction in the Border region; (2) Deputy O'Leary — the need for the construction of a replacement primary school at Bonane, Kenmare, County Kerry, in 1995 in view of the condition of the existing building; (3) Deputy Eric Byrne — the sharp increase in the amount of smuggled cigarettes and tobacco entering this country, the sale of these products by illegal traders, and the need for concerted action by both customs officials and the Garda Síochána to stamp out this black market; (4) Deputy Kirk — the need for the introduction of regulations governing the establishment of private security industry and the existing security information co-ordination between the Garda and such private security companies; (5) Deputy McDaid — the discrimination that exists for people living in the Republic of Ireland and working in Northern Ireland as a result of the double taxation convention between the Government of Ireland and the Government of the United Kingdom; (6) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — the need for an inquiry into the tragic death of a passenger on an Aer Lingus flight to Cork on the night of 25 January 1995 where it is alleged that two oxygen units failed to function; (7) Deputy Mulvihill — the need to examine the possibility of supplying new rolling stock on the Cork-Cobh railway line in view of the dilapidated condition of the present rolling stock which is causing great inconvenience to passengers, especially in this inclement weather; (8) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the difficulties being experienced by social welfare recipients in connection with the local authority tenant purchase scheme; (9) Deputy Sargent — the devastating impact on the Dublin 15 area if schools and youth organisations, including sports clubs, are deprived of the open space at Beech Park Avenue, Dublin 15; and the need to ensure that short term considerations do not cost this area an open space on which it has depended for over 60 years; (10) Deputy McCormack — the need to provide the necessary finance in 1995 to deal with the unprecedented flooding problems in the South Galway area; (11) Deputy Finucane — the need to provide funding for the extension to Bellyagran primary school, County Limerick; (12) Deputy Browne Carlow-Kilkenny) —the need to provide emergency relief for the residents and businesses at Graiguecullen, County Carlow, in respect of the serious flooding in that area at present; (13) Deputy Flanagan — the severe flooding in the midlands; and, in particular, the need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to ensure the reclassification of the disadvantaged areas as soon as possible; (14) Deputy O'Donnell — the immediate need to establish, in connection with Cospóir and other State and voluntary bodies, a code of practice for the reporting of sexual abuse of children and for the vetting of sports coaches; (15) Deputy Tom Kitt — the action being taken concerning the collapse of the off-shore bank International Investments Limited, Gibraltar, in view of the heavy financial losses incurred by so many Irish investors, both from Northern Ireland and the Republic, in this bank; (16) Deputy Killeen — the need to take urgent action to alleviate the suffering of householders and others in Sixmilebridge and other areas of County Clare whose homes and properties have been destroyed by recent floods and (17) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to increase funding to Cavan County Council for 1995 in respect of regional and county roads and in respect of the reopening of cross-Border roads.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies McDaid, Leonard, Dermot Ahern and Flanagan.
