Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Legal Claims.

Pat Upton

Question:

199 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry in respect of claims for negligence and nuisance against his Department for each year since 1990, the total number of claims made; the total number of claims settled; the total amount of money paid in settlements; the total amount of money paid in legal costs arising from the settlements; the total number of claims outstanding at present; and the estimated cost of these claims. [2099/95]

The information sought is not readily available in the format requested by the Deputy and I am sure he will appreciate that to extract this information would mean deferring more pressing and urgent work.

Information on legal settlements and, if appropriate, fees paid by my Department in the last five years is contained in the Annual Reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Appropriation Accounts for the years in question. I have arranged for copies of the relevant extracts to be sent to the Deputy today.
