Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Harbour Boards.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

207 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for the Marine if he will reconsider the proposed amendment to the Harbour Act, 1946, in relation to the make-up of harbour boards to ensure that local groups retain the right to nominate members to the boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1863/95]

Work on the preparation of the Harbours Bill, 1995, is well advanced. The purpose of the legislation is to set up commercial State companies to manage a number of our commercial seaports. I expect to be in a position to bring my proposals in this regard to Government in due course. I have not yet made any decisions on the make-up of harbour boards.
