Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Unemployment Statistics.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

44 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Taoiseach the total number of unemployed persons at the end of 1993 and the end of 1994; and the total number of long term unemployed persons at the end of 1993 and the end of 1994. [1765/95]

The total number of persons on the live register on 30 December 1994 was 280,183. The corresponding total on 31 December 1993 was 297,089.

The CSO publishes a half-yearly age by duration analysis of the live register. The most recent information available from this analysis relates to October 1994 and shows that, of the total live register figure of 272,868 in October 1994, 133,098 persons had been on the register continuously for one year or more. Corresponding figures in respect of October 1993 show that 134,791 persons had been on the register continuously for one year or more out of a total of 286,275.
