Question:

67 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the present position on the structuring of the replacement consultant neurologist post; if the new incumbent will be in a position to take up duty in the first half of 1995; and if the post will provide for a formal relationship between the neurology services in both Cork University Hospital and the Mercy Hospital, Cork. [1837/95]

Limerick East): The Southern Health Board has received approval from my Department for the filling of a replacement consultant neurologist position which has now been advertised by the Local Appointments Commission and for which interviews will be held in the near future.

The outcome of the interviews will have to be awaited in order to establish the timescale for the filling of this post in a permanent capacity and when the successful candidate will be in a position to take up duty. In the interim, arrangements have been made to have the post filled in a locum capacity. Comhairle na nOspidéal approval provides for a formal arrangement between Cork University Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for the delivery of neurology services.
