Vol. 448 No. 3

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Hospital Maternity Unit.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

72 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Health the commencement date for the construction of the most recent extension to the maternity unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, County Louth; and the date of completion. [1900/95]

Limerick East): Work on the construction of the new maternity unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda began in 1987. The work was completed in 1990 and the unit came into operation in July that year. There has been no extension to the maternity unit since that date and I understand that the hospital authorities currently have no plans for any further extension of the unit.

The Deputy will wish to know that the hospital authorities are, however, in the process of transferring the gynaecological unit to the maternity wing of the hospital. My Department has received a preliminary proposal from the hospital seeking funding in respect of minor works in this regard in recent days. This proposal is under consideration in my Department at present.
