76 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the number of beds in registered nursing homes on a county basis; the number of persons obtaining subvention in December 1994, in each county at each level of dependency; the number of appeals received by the appeals officer in 1994; the number of decisions that were reversed on appeal; and the total cost to the Exchequer of providing this subvention in 1994. 77 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Health the number of nursing homes registered under the 1990 Act; the number refused registration on first application; the numbers, if any, removed from the register since the Act came into operation; and the reason for such removals. [1963/95]
Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 77 together. The Health (Nursing Homes) Act, 1990 provides subventions for those dependent persons assessed by health boards as in need of nursing care and without the means to pay for it. By the end of 1994, a total of almost £12 million was made available to implement the Act.
The information which the Deputy sought is not available on a county basis. However, the relevant data by the health board is given in the table, which I intend to circulate in the Official Report.
