Question:

114 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment if he will have arrangements made to carry out a review of the method of conducting driving tests for motorists to determine if the test can be made more userfriendly. [2046/95]

The driving tests are conducted in accordance with criteria laid down in an EU Directive which has been given effect in Irish law. Driver testers are required to be courteous in their dealings with test applicants and to avoid adding to what tends of its nature to be a stressful exercise.

It is an integral part of my Department's overall strategy that the services it provides, including the driver testing service, operate in accordance with quality principles and in a user friendly way. I intend that efforts in this direction will be pursued in the months ahead.
