Vol. 448 No. 4

Written Answers. - Science Parks Report.

Noel Ahern

Question:

134 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has received and considered the report on science parks from the Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council; if a decision to give EU structural funding towards such a science park has been made; and if Abbostown College is the number one location. [2328/95]

The Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council have just reported to me in relation to their review of Irish science and technology policy as a whole. There is a separate working group established by my Department specifically to examine the feasibility of setting up a science and technology park in the Dublin area.

This latter working group is still considering the issue but I expect it to make a report on the matter very shortly.

I expect that the group will, in their report, address the issues of potential funding for such a development as well as possible sites, having regard to existing and planned public and private sector industrial development in the Dublin area over the next few years.
