Vol. 448 No. 6

Written Answers. - Places in School System.

Mary Harney

Question:

50 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the priority, if any, her Department is giving to finding suitable places for young persons (details supplied) in Dublin 24, who have been out of the school system for the past four months; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2609/95]

In reply to a previous question from the Deputy on 15 November 1994, I stated that if she would let me have particulars of the young persons concerned, including names and addresses of the most recent schools attended by these persons and the dates in each case, I would have inquiries made and advise her of the outcome in due course.

On the basis of information received from the Deputy and information provided by other sources, my Department is investigating these cases.

Inquiries so far have revealed that an assessment with a view to having her placed in an appropriate school had been arranged last year for one of the children concerned. The appointment for the assessment was not kept by the child or her parents or guardians.

I have arranged for inquiries to be made into all of the cases raised by the Deputy and I will advise her of the outcome as soon as possible.
