Vol. 448 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Enterprise Boards.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

85 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total sum approved for all projects submitted to the county enterprise boards at the end of December 1994; the total sum from the end of December 1994 to date; the draw down figure on a national and county basis for each county for the same dates; and the action, if any, he proposes to take to improve the present procedures. [2863/95]

The statistical information on county enterprise boards sought by the Deputy is set out in the following schedule. The data supplied are subject to change in the light of project decommittals or amendments to amounts already approved in individual cases.

With regard to the present procedures under the interim operating guidelines, as the CEB initiative is entering a more definitive phase following the publication of the European Union operational programme for local, urban and rural development, I am looking constructively at how the aims, objectives, functions, administrative systems and funding criteria of the boards should take shape. I recognise the need to move rapidly to formally establish the boards as separate legal entities — com panies limited by guarantee — and to allow them operate flexibly. Systems for managing the resources of the boards will be put in place which reflect the objective of decentralising public agency decision making and expenditure.
