Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Allocation.

Michael Bell

Question:

75 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health the allocation under various headings made by his Department during the last two years to the North Eastern Health Board; and the total funds involved under each heading. [3140/95]

Limerick East): Health boards are given a global non-capital allocation each year and are required to prepare a detailed budget in line with the approved figure. It is a matter for each health board to determine its budget having regard to the service levels agreed with my Department, including local priorities.

It is usual that health boards are given additional funding during a year, generally to cover agreed pay increases and to assist with the development of specific services, as agreed with my Department.

The Deputy should be aware that some of the additional funding in any one year may be of a once-off nature and care should be taken when comparing expenditure figures for different years.

The figures for the North Eastern Health Board in respect of 1993 and 1994 are as follows:

1993

£80.791m

£88.327m

1994
