Vol. 449 No. 2
43 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Finance the proposals, if any, he has to remove the Government levy on car insurance and other non-life insurance products for insured persons over 65 years of age. [3409/95]
The 2 per cent non-life insurance levy yielded over £25 million for the Exchequer in 1994, and the Deputy will appreciate that these moneys make a significant contribution to funding the Government's important economic and social programme. The Government attaches a high priority to targeting further tax reforms towards those areas where the positive impact on employment is most significant. In this context, I have no plans to introduce any changes of the kind suggested by the Deputy.
