Vol. 449 No. 8

Written Answers. - Closure of Out-patient Clinics.

Tom Moffatt

Question:

43 Dr. Moffatt asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the concern aroused by the proposed closure of St. Luke's peripheral out-patient clinics, particularly the clinic that serves the North Mayo area at Ballina, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3722/95]

Limerick East): I am aware that St. Luke's and St. Anne's Hospital are reviewing the services provided to patients at the network of peripheral clinics which are held by consultants based at St. Luke's and St. Anne's. This review is taking place as a result of the recommendation of a medical review group that the network of clinics needed to be rationalised. The recommendation was made in the light of multi-disciplinary developments in the management of cancer and in the context of major developments at St. Luke's and St. Anne's Hospital. No decision has been taken to close any of the clinics. The role of the North Mayo clinic at St. Joseph's Hospital, Ballina, is being reviewed in tandem with the health board.
