Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Whitefish Hardship Fund.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

158 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for the Marine if additional compensation will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Donegal under the Whitefish hardship fund; and if money will be allocated to his boat (details supplied) under FEOGA in April 1995. [4977/95]

Grant assistance was paid to the person in question under the hardship scheme administered by BIM, in respect of claims both as a vessel owner and crewman. His subsequent appeal claiming entitlement to higher payments was considered by the scheme appeals committee which found that the payment had been correctly assessed in accordance with the criteria governing BIM's administration of the scheme.

The individual's application for grant assistance towards the cost of modernising his boat is one of a number of such applications covering small scale projects which are currently being assessed under the operational programme for fisheries. Decisions will be announced within the next two months.
