Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Provision of Courthouse.

Liam Burke

Question:

109 Mr. L. Burke asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to provide a courthouse in the north Cork city area in order to help litigants in this part of the city; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4801/95]

The position is that a new District Courthouse is nearing completion at Anglesea Street, Cork. The new courthouse will accommodate three courtrooms, a family law suite, consultation rooms, a victim support room and the staff of Cork District Court. The new courthouse will be furbished to meet modern day court requirements for Cork city.

Following on the transfer of the District Courts from Washington Street courthouse, it is then proposed to refurbish that courthouse to accommodate the Circuit Courts, the High Court on Circuit and the staff of the Circuit Court office and planning for this has already begun.

The substantial works that are both ongoing and in the pipeline, as outlined, will provide excellent accommodation for all the court requirements in the Cork city area. I have no proposals to provide any further courthouse accommodation in Cork city at this time.
