Vol. 450 No. 2

Written Answers. - Extradition Request.

John Connor

Question:

119 Mr. Connor asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon against whom firearm charges were laid in 1982 and against whom a warrant for arrest exists but who absconded to Spain; and if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that this person left debts in excess of £2.5 million and was the subject of a dropped fraud investigation; and the action, if any, she intends to take to ensure that he is returned to this country to face the charges laid against him. [5017/95]

A decision on whether to proceed with the making of an extradition request to secure the return of a person from abroad to stand trial here is a matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The director is independent in the exercise of his functions.
