Question:

158 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the consultations, if any, that took place between his Department and the Office of Public Works prior to the sale of the Glending Wood, Blessington. [5250/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 156, 157 and 158 together.

Consultations by my Department with the Office of Public Works resulted in an agreement to transfer 14.22 ha to the Office of Public Works. This area incorporated a Ring Fort to which the Office of Public Works retained Right of Way access. With the consent of the Department of Finance the remaining land (58.65 ha) was sold by Private Treaty to Roadstone Dublin Limited on 23 December 1991 following an approach by that company to the Department. One other offer was received by the Department but was unsuccesful. No undertakings were given by Roadstone Dublin Limited to the State regarding public access and public rights of way.
