Vol. 450 No. 3

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Construction.

Michael Creed

Question:

120 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment the estimated cost of the construction of standard local authority swimming pools. [5158/95]

The provision of a swimming pool built to my Department's guideline specification can cost up to £2 million, approximately. The overall cost of a particular pool depends on such factors as land acquisition and development costs; the design of the facility and pool size; the type and scale of ancillary facilities that may be provided; and the level of consultancy and other fees that may be incurred. Other factors are the competitiveness of tenders, and trends in building costs when the project goes to construction. These factors can vary considerably from project to project.
