Vol. 450 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

32 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education the total national lottery funding received by her Department in 1994, the projects funded in this way during 1994; the projects which her Department will be submitting for funding in 1995; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5107/95]

The following table gives provisional details of expenditure by my Department from the proceeds of the national lottery in 1994. This expenditure is distributed over the broad headings under which national lottery funds are allocated as follows:

(a) Irish Language

£2 million

(b) Arts and Culture

£6 million

(c) Youth and Sport

£28.9 million

Total

£36.9 million

Details of specific projects grant aided by my Department from lottery funds are published annually in the Appropriation Accounts. Data for the 1994 Appropriation Accounts is currently being compiled for audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General and will be published later in the year.
The allocation of resources required to provide details of all projects which will be funded in 1995 would be disproportionate. I would be glad, however, to provide full details of any project in which the Deputy has a particular interest.
Under paragraph 66, of theGovernment of Renewal programme, the Disbursement of national lottery funds will be the subject of “a review of the strategic objectives and the procedures for the distribution and allocation of resources generated by the National Lottery” to be carried out by an interdepartmental committee under an independent chairperson. My Department will be represented on this committee.
