Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

117 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Education when a decision will be made in relation to school transport for children (details supplied) in County Galway. [5535/95]

The children in question were originally availing of a scheduled service in the morning, and were being given half the maximum grant allowable in respect of the journey home from school. When it transpired that the morning service was unsatisfactory as it meant that the children were arriving late for school, my Department sanctioned the full maximum grant to each of the three families involved. The cost of providing a special service to cater for these three children would be prohibitive, and, in the circumstances, payment of the maximum grants is the most that can be offered.
