Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Sites.

Colm M. Hilliard

Question:

169 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will grant local authorities existing cowplots which could be used to provide housing sites so as to save the authorities much-needed finance in the purchase of suitable building land. [5395/95]

Cowparks or cowplots are administered under deeds of trust by trustees representing the local communities in which the cowparks are situated. While the Land Commission has no general proposals to transfer such lands to local authorities it would dispose of those lands in accordance with the provisions of the Land Purchase Acts, in circumstances in which the lands are no longer used in accordance with the terms of the trust. In such cases, the merits of transferring the land to the local authority would be considered.
