Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Civil Service Staffing.

Pat Upton

Question:

73 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Finance the number of additional staff in various categories in the Civil Service who will be employed in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5588/95]

The number of civil servants serving on 1 January 1995 was 30,131 comprising 28,370 non-industrial civil servants and 1,761 industrial civil servants. It would not be possible to say at this stage how the numbers serving in particular categories in the Civil Service will change in the course of 1995. This would depend upon a range of factors such as retirements, resignations, career breaks, changing workloads, etc. and the extent to which recruitment will be needed to offset such changes.
