Vol. 450 No. 7
15 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the changes, if any, he intends to initiate in order to develop and promote the services sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5634/95]
Both prior to and since assuming office I have consistently been supportive of initiatives to develop the services sector. In accordance with the commitment given in A Government of Renewal I am advancing recommendations to extend the definition of service sectors qualifying for assistance from the development agencies as well as reviewing the corporation tax structure for the international services sector. I am continuing to press ahead with the implementation of the remaining recommendations of the report of the task force on jobs in services and I am planning to increase the participation of the services sector in the small business operational programme and measures thereunder including the soft loan fund.
A significant recent development has been the county enterprise board structure which now provides State assistance for the development of a new micro enterprise in the services sector. I am also undertaking a policy review and hope to devise additional proposals for the services sector as part of a wider employment strategy.
