Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Non-National Road Funding.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

123 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the breakdown of the allocation for non-national roads in 1994 under the headings of Exchequer funding and EU funding for each county and borough council. [6152/95]

Details of grant allocations made to local authorities for non-nationals roads in 1994 are contained in my Department's booklets "1994 Grant Allocations for EU Co-Financed Specific Road Improvement Schemes", "Road Grants for 1994: Non-National Roads (Discretionary Grants)" and "Statistics on 1994 Grant Allocations for Non-National Roads", copies of which have been placed in the Oireachtas Library.

Projects included in the first mentioned booklet are expected to qualify for aid at a rate of 50 per cent from the European Regional Development Fund. Funding for these projects was provided in full, in the first instance, from the Exchequer through road grants paid by my Department. The appropriate EU assistance is subsequently claimed by the Department of Finance and remitted to the Exchequer in part recoupment of the road grants.
