Question:

146 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the proposed new community schools for Kenmare and Rathmore, County Kerry; the number of students to be accommodated in each school; and the proposed opening date for each of these schools. [6040/95]

I propose taking Questions Nos. 128, 129, 130 and 146 together. The following is the position in regard to the schools in question.

Rathmore Community School

The architectural planning for the proposed community school for Rathmore has been completed and arrangements are being made for the invitation of tenders. It is hoped that this project will proceed to construction as soon as possible. It is not possible at this stage to indicate when the school will be ready for occupation.

The school will provide for an estimated enrolment of 475 pupils.

Kenmare Community School

The proposed community school in Kenmare is to be developed in two phases.

My Department intends to proceed with phase I of this development as soon as a satisfactory contract guarantee bond has been received from the contractor. This bond is expected to be available shortly. It is hoped that work will commence in April. Phase I should be ready for occupation in November 1995.

When phase I of the development has been completed, it is intended to proceed with phase II as soon as possible. The detailed drawings for phase II of the development have been submitted to my Department and are at present being examined as a matter of urgency.
The projected pupil enrolments for the school are 500 in the short term and 425 in the long term.
Cahirciveen Community College
County Kerry Vocational Education committee's design team have been asked to prepare a revised outline sketch scheme for the new community college at Cahirciveen. It is understood from the vocational education committee that the revised sketch scheme will be submitted to my Department in April.
