Written Answers. - Ministerial Functions.

Pat the Cope Gallagher

Question:

193 Mr. P. Gallagher (Donegal South West) asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the functions delegated to each Minister of State at his Department; and the date on which the functions were delegated in each case. [5821/95]

The statutory powers and duties specified in S.I. No. 42 of 1995 and S.I. No. 43 of 1995 were delegated respectively to the Minister of State with responsibility for commerce, science and technology, Deputy Rabbitte, and the Minister of State with responsibility for labour affairs on 14 February 1995. Copies of both Statutory Instruments are available in the Dáil Library.

Briefly, the functions which these orders delegate to the Minister of State in my Department are as follows:— Deputy Rabbitte, Minister for Commerce, Science and Technology has specific responsibility for science and technology, company law, insurance, consumer rights, registry of friendly societies, copyright issues and casual trading.

Deputy Eithne Fitzgerald, Minister for Labour Affairs, has specific responsibility for labour legislation, EU affairs including the Social Charter, EU Social Affairs Council, health and safety, redundancy, insolvency, work sharing, enterprise partnership and new forms of work, traineeships, apprenticeships and arrangements for initial vocational education and training.
